My Mustang ROCKS!!

4 July 2009

The car is running and purring with the new EFI. I had to work out some difficulties (the EEC fuel pump circuit is burn out, so I bypassed it, had two TFI wires switched, and timing was retarded 40 degrees, instead of advanced 10 degrees), but after plenty of complaining and throwing of tools, I finally got it all figured out. Here is a brief video of it running to prove it works!

New wheels

Still working on the fuel injection.  I have the intake manifold, injector rails, and upper plenum done. I need to modify the throttle cam on the throttle body because it is hitting the hood.  Should be fun.  I also got some new shoes for the old girl from www.newtakeoff.com:

I have discovered that I like the mechanical/engine side of things much more than the rest.  I love fabricating (or at least figuring out what to have fabricated) and adapting new systems to these old engines.  I like the bodywork and suspension part as well, but I have to be in the right mood for it... I am always in the mood to do a little engine work!

efi intakeI am working on an EFI conversion for my engine.  Since there is no EFI available specifically for the 351C (be it factory or aftermarket), I will be working from scratch, using mostly OEM Ford parts.  This is where the fun begins!  This project will use a Ford EEC-IV computer to adapt fuel injection to a 351C using a Paxton Novi 2000 supercharger.  This engine previously had a carburetor and a Extreme Velocity carb hat to direct boost into the engine.  I am keeping the Weiand Xcellerator intake and modifying it to accept fuel injectors.  The project will be largely be done using OEM Ford parts where appropriate.

In addition to the fuel injection, I will also convert the ignition system to an electronic distributorless ignition system (EDIS) using Ford factory parts.  This will eliminate the MSD ignition system, which consisted of the distributor, ignition box, and single coil.  As far as a leap it was from points to an electronic ignition with a distributor, it will be equally as far a jump from a distributor to distributorless.

Not too many updates happening around here.  I haven't been working on the car much lately... but that doesn't mean I dont have ideas or plans... or projects I just plain didnt finish!  I have the fold down seat 90% done.  I also have both front seats recovered (Thunderbird seats... much like Fox Body GT seats), but not installed.
